What is Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)?

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level entrance test and only after being successful in this entrance examination, applicants get admission in undergraduate and postgraduate law courses. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), which is conducted every year by the Consortium of the National Law Universities. This examination is conducted on a rotation basis by the different National Law University.

After passing the CLAT entrance examination, applicants can enroll in LLB and LLM courses and applicants can enroll in the following courses.

Exam Pattern for CLAT

The Common Law Admission Test is based on objective type questions. In this exam, questions are asked from syllabus of class 10th and 12th. The CLAT mainly tests the aptitude and skill of the candidates. Which is necessary for the study of law and based on this, questions are prepared in the exam. CLAT is a 2-hour test. 150 multiple-choice questions are asked in the UG exam. For each correct answer, 1 mark will be given and for the wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.

CLAT Entrance Exam Schedule

Normally, notification of CLAT 2026 is issued in December, the application process starts in January, the admit cards are issued in April, and the examination is conducted in the middle of May. After conducting the examination, its answer sheet is released after two days and the result is declared by the end of May. The cutoff and merit list is announced in June, after which the counselling process is started.

The Common Law Admission Test is organized for admission in the various National Law University of India. Apart from this, few private institutes also provide admission in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law courses based on CLAT score.
